The Beijing electric bicycle group standard “Technical Specification for lithium-ion power battery packs for electric bicycles” (hereinafter referred to as the “Specification”) has been revised recently and will be formally implemented on June 19.
The newly revised group standard more prominent product safety, on the basis of the Beijing electric bicycle quality safety management practice, for the first time put forward the battery pack and vehicle mutual recognition collaborative identification and battery (single) identification, acupuncture, heat abuse, overdischarge, external short circuit requirements, the first application of battery pack and charging device mutual recognition collaborative identification, battery overtemperature alarm function. Safety items such as battery pack handle strength and salt spray are increased, and the group standard also specifically clarifies the functions of the battery pack management system, and details the test methods such as BMS data upload function and free drop.
In recent years, electric bicycles have become an important means of transportation for people because of their economic and convenient characteristics. At present, there are more than 300 million electric bicycles in the country, and the number is increasing, and the fire risk continues to rise.
According to the National Fire and Rescue Bureau’s 2022 National fire rescue team response and fire show that in 2022, a total of 18,000 electric bicycle fires were reported, an increase of 23.4% over 2021; There were 3,242 fires caused by battery failures in residential places, an increase of 17.3% over 2021. It can be seen that it is urgent and important to increase the prevention of electric bicycle fire accidents.
For the safety of electric bicycles, the new battery regulations require that when the internal temperature of the battery pack or the temperature of a battery reaches 80 degrees, the vehicle or the battery pack should issue an alarm sound within 30 seconds. This is conducive to people in the first time to hear the sound, take timely measures to reduce the risk of accidents. If the battery meets the standard, and the connector standard is not up to standard, it will also cause safety hazards of electric bicycles.
Now the quality of connectors on the market is uneven, enterprises in the pursuit of maximum benefits, deliberately reduce production costs, pull down production requirements, resulting in inferior connector products that do not meet the standard continue to flow into the market. Some electric vehicle stores privately sell inferior connectors, leaving a safety hazard when matching the original vehicle; Some repair points not only sell excessive batteries, but also provide vehicle modification services, and install inferior connectors for electric vehicles, which can be described as “risk on risk.”
